Why wont my car send charge to my battery?

-Give us more.....With engine off, pop hood, look around, put hands on - and check the connections at the battery for tight and clean. You have a power cable and a connector to the alternator, check those. Look under hood and inside (under dash or side of) at all fuses. Its one of three things : 1-battery not taking / holding charge, replace battery. 2-bad or loose connection in wiring (incl fuse), find and repair. 3- bad alternator, replace alternator. G/LFirst, make sure the batter terminals are cleaned, greased, and tight.

Then make sure the alternator belt is reasonably tight.

They buy a voltmeter for $3 at Harbor Freight.

At rest, you should get 12 volts off the battery.

When you turn the key to on, but not start, the alternator warning light must come one.

Then when you crank it, voltage should drop to 10 or so.

But after you start, when you rev the engine, it must go over 12.

It should really go over 13.5, but less than 14.

If it does not, then the alternator is probably bad.

If it does, but you still have to jump it to start, then it could be the battery is so bad it can't take and hold a charge.



Also make sure the connections to the alternator and engine ground strap are all clean and tight.
First, clean your battery cable terminals inside and out using a battery brush, reattach and tighten the battery cables after cleaning your battery posts.



Drive your car to the nearest auto parts store and have a charging system check done. This will tell you if your alternator is bad or your battery is bad.



Take it from there and do what needs to be done.
The car doesn't re-charge the battery. The alternator is supposed to be recharging the battery at a rate of between 13.5 - 14.2 volts when the engine is running.
that,s the alternator,s job to send charge to the battery. i say it,s either the alternator, the belt or the voltage regulator if you have an external regulator.
There is probably something wrong with your alternator.
