My car has a immobiliser in it. how do i tell if it's broke?

-My 94 Honda Civic was bought with an immobiliser. the other day I went to turn it on and noticed the little light below it was red and yet it was fine. I try to turn the car on but it wont run. Nothing happens bad. No check engine. checked everything i think. Only thing odd is this little red light. I have no idea how to find out what kind of immobiliser i have. I have no idea how to tell if it's the problem and I have no idea who to speak to without knowing who makes it. there's no brand name on it. just a little black port under the steeringwheel that has a little chip that plugs into it. Any info?
