Fan on our central air is not turning on the motor is running and the air is blowing just not getting cold?

-If you are low on Freon (gas in the air con system) then it triggers a switch which means the AC pump wont operate. If this doesnt operate, the air wont be cold as it would be if you had AC running.

See an air con specialist to have it recharged.

(check the fuses first though)I literally just solved this problem today! The capacitor needs to be replaced.

My symptoms were:

The air inside not blowing cold air.

When the system was turned off then turned back on again, the outside fan would not start up again itself.

The outdoor unit would also hum.

You should open up your outdoor unit and look at the capacitor. If it has a BULGE or it is BOWED like the above picture, it is a BAD capacitor.

1. Find out the type of central air unit you have, it should be labeled on the outside unit.

2. Google the companies dealers nearby

3. Call every place you can going down a list until you find someone that sells the individual part. It is only $20. It took me over 10 calls.

4. Buy it - My original unit had a round capacitor, the new one was flask-shaped. Didn't make a difference!

5. Easiest install ever.

I turned off the AC using the thermostat panel inside, switched off the A/C breaker, and pulled out the outdoor plug (located right next to the outdoor unit in a box attached to the house)

Wherever the wires enter the outside unit is where the capacitor is. Remove the panel to get to it.

Take note of the wiring labels. Mine was: Blue > Herm, Yellow > C, Brown > Fan. They are labeled on the capacitor.

Remove old capacitor, put new one in with the same wire placement as before. Since I got a flask-shaped capacitor, the rounded mount didn't work, so I just let it sit there with no mount.
Try the simplest thing first:

Make sure your furnace air filter is clean.

Buy the cheap air filters for your furnace and replace them every month, don't waste your money on the expensive filters that claim they last for up to 3 months.
