-hi guys. newish to cars and i just bought a 91 geo metro 2dr hatch not much is wrong with it. but there is a parts car listed locally and its a 4door. as with older cars it needs some work so because the 4dr is bigger will i be able to take the front 2 doors off of it and put them on mine? what about the windshield? bumper? and the big question the engine and transmission should a 4dr engine and transmission be able to bolt up to a 2 door? the tranny on the 4dr is a 5speed while the transmission on mine is a automatic i know it would need some things changed but would it work, or even his engine onto my transmision just in case i have issues having a cheap back up? and my seats are shot should the front seats fit into mine?
so pretty much would most of the parts from a 4dr geo metro 1991 fit onto a 2dr geo metro 1991?
and in the add it says Suzuki Swift say bars(big handling improvement) what is this and what does it do and would this alone be worth buying off of the parts car?
thank you guys for all the help
JohnEverything apart from the doors fits.
The front seats in the 4 door dont fold back to let rear passengers in, but they can be wound forward, though it could fail inspection since it's hard to get out quickly in an emergency.
BUT - You can take the seat covers (and foam) from the good seats and fit them to your original seats, the covers arent hard to remove, they fit like a boxing glove, they pull over the seat and lace up at the bottom, hard to go wrong.
Engine and transmission both fit, but the manual engine wont fit the automatic box, and vice versa, the flywheel and shaft are different.
All suspension is the same, brakes the same, dash, most of the electrics.
Windscreen is the same.
Doubt any of the other windows will fit apart from the rear screen maybe.
Rear seats or at least the covers and foam should be ok -
Suzuki swift sway bars (anti-roll bars) are stiffer and therefore keep the car more level when cornering at speed - 8-10 bolts, one off, one on :)
Though the auto box and engine are incompatible you can use all of the engine parts on your existing engine, head, pistons, crank, starter, alternator etc etc etc.
(the auto might have an oil cooler which would be good to butcher if you're planning on having a fast road car)
For any questions that you have regarding interchangeable parts and which parts will fit which different vehicles, talk to the folks at your local wrecking yard.
Most wrecking yards are networked with many others across the U.S. and can order most any part you need. They can usually have the part for you within a couple days.
They also have access to all the interchangeability data you could possibly ever need right at their fingertips.
They'll give you accurate information and in just a few minutes.
