Problem with reverse gear on car?

-I am recently having trouble with the reversr gear on my car, basically reverse is above first but now when I try to put it in reverse it just slips into first, all the other gears work without problem, anyone know what could be wrong and roughly how much I'm looking at to get it fixed?a bolt has come loose from your gear linkage (or a rubber bush has broken up) - 1 hour labour to fix, pence for parts.I'm assuming it's a manual. Ok? Then, you may Only need to get the shifter adjusted or its detent replaced (if there is one).

This won't be too much. But, if that Isn't it, tranny needs to come out To just fix the detent on reverse may not be too much; just the $$ in taking it out/putting in labor . May just be an internal detent, as reverse is used the least. Probably not gear damage if it goes In without grinding.

The Big problem is, if you have to have a tranny job, most shops won't stop at a simple repair if it it needs synchros, too, and a new clutch, etc. They have to Guarantee their work.
Probably just the linkage, not expensive to fix.
Sounds like linkage hopefully not the clutches in your tranny
be nice to know what kind of car an tramison . an might be shifting paw
